Joan Gand of Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond welcomes guests to this special open house of a classic Keck and Keck mid-century home in Sheridan Square.

The home is located steps away from the beach.

Located on a well-traveled corner, the home was designed with a courtyard that creates a buffer and much needed privacy.

The courtyard is landscaped with a simple, modern design of easy to care for plantings and paving.

The large fixed-pane windows are bordered by screened vents that open up inside the home throughout. This is a Keck and Keck trade-mark design element.

Huge windows look out onto this courtyard for private views.

An oasis of calm, just inside, is a perfect spot for a coffee break!

Inside the home, mid-century style pervades, and a Higgins mobile takes center stage.

Saarinen table and chairs in the dining room is a comfortable spot to view the huge collection of Russel Wright on display.

The owners put out original blueprints and other interesting info about the home. They also have an antique globe collection.

CBB members were treated to wine and a beautiful spread, eaten on vintage Russel Wright dishes.

Vintage Russel Wright American Modern dishes and serving pieces.

The "cabinet" doors to the left of the mobile are actually the screened window vents that can open to let fresh air in throughout the house.

A large freestanding closet separates the slate-floored entry hall from the living room. The closet and floor are all original.

The owners organized all their storage with a system from Ikea.

The floor-plan lends itself to a party!

This series of professional photos was included in a color brochure on the home.

The courtyard creates a "zen" feeling.

The fireplace has a stunning cantilevered slate mantel.

Note the wall of built-in storage, and original Keck and Keck feature.

The bathrooms contained mostly original fixtures, tastefully updated to keep the vintage feel.

The kitchen features the original cabinets, counter tops, and oven. Even the cork floors are original and in great condition.

The lower level adds a useful large l-shaped room that can be used as a family room and home office.
