A Celebration of Russel Wright
On Sunday, September 18, 2011, from 3-6pm, Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond members
Gary and Laura Maurer will host “A Celebration of Russel Wright” at their home in Chicago.
Wright was an influential industrial designer who created a succession of artistically distinctive
and commercially successful items from the late 1920’s through the 1960’s.
He was noted for bringing modern design to the general public and was recently
honored as one of 12 “Pioneers of American Industrial Design” featured in a U.S. Postal Service
stamp issue. He also built Manitoga, his eco-sensitive modernist home in Garrison, NY
which is now the Russel Wright Design Center and a National Historic Landmark.
