CBB members are invited to a swanky cocktail party in a member's condo at 900 N. Lakeshore Drive. The Esplanade Apartments are two of the four buildings designed by Mies van der Rohe and built by Herbert Greenwald on Lake Shore Drive between Chestnut and Walton Streets. They were the first high-rise buildings designed by Mies to fully implement a continuous exterior curtain wall that was articulated separate from the building’s structural frame. This technology was used by Mies in all his future high-rise projects, including the celebrated Seagram Building completed in 1958, and has become the standard in modern high quality high-rise construction. The condo is a corner unit with lake views.

Dennis Blair Home Tour
Long Grove, IL
2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
This tour will honor architect Dennis Blair, who apprenticed with Frank Lloyd Wright, and designed dozens of modernist homes around the Chicago area. His style ranges from beautifully executed flat-roof post and beam modernist structures to more freeform designs. In the early 1950’s he was recognized as an “architect to watch” by Architectural Record magazine. CBB included his own home on our Barrington tour, and held our holiday party two years ago at the home of John McCarthy and and Dave Eggert in Long Grove.
We will now return to that same neighborhood to tour several homes, including Blair's former studio, in a wonderful afternoon planned by John and Dave. Mr. Blair and his assistant will be on hand to answer questions and share insights. Enjoy a beautiful fall day in the woods in a secluded modernist enclave.
Registration will be limited, and only those paid in advance can be guaranteed a space, so be sure to sign up early!
Cost: $25 for CBB members, $35 for guests
