Julius Shulman: Chicago Mid-Century Modernism

CAF has invited us to do a presentation and book-signing at their wonderful facility in downtown Chicago. Gary Gand will give a slide lecture with images and stories about the making of the new Rizzoli book, Julius Shulman: Chicago Mid-Century Modernism. In 2006, Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond, contacted legendary photographer Julius Shulman to record Chicago’s modernist residential architectural heritage. Gand discusses Shulman’s final book project before his death in 2009, which documents modern masterpieces by Edward Dart, Bertrand Goldberg, Paul Schweikher, Edward Humric, Harry Weese, and others.

A book signing will follow in the Chicago Architecture Foundation Shop, where books will be available for purchase. No RSVP necessary.

We know that every CBB member will want to own this beautiful coffee-table book featuring 14 modern homes, some of which have been on our tours. So, if you cannot attend an event, please make sure to buy the book from Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble, or your local book store.

Thanks to everyone who attended our book celebration event last month at the fabulous "House on a Bluff" by H.P. Davis Rockwell, hosted by CBB members Kim and Jeff Valles. Their beautiful home, stunning views and hospitality were greatly appreciated by all who attended.

Also, thanks to those who attended the book-signing event in Palm Springs at the Just Fabulous book store.The event was jam-packed and now even California knows about Chicago's mid-century modernism!
