Open House - Highland Park - FREE
6:00pm - 7:30pm (group talk at 6:45pm)
Relax Over the Ravine....
Please join us for a glass of wine and light
hors d'oeuvres at the modernist Schwartz house
designed by Edward Dart in 1961.

Hiding at the end of a cul-de-sac, secluded and private, this
one-owner retreat embraces its dramatic wooded ravine with a
wrap-around deck. With natural materials including walnut, slate,
rock, and exposed aggregate concrete, cohesive Asian influences
and huge expanses of glass and an open layout,
the home blends perfectly with nature.
The streamline minimalist elements here are warm and cozy.
Get a rare glimpse into this home
with its original furnishings including pieces by Dunbar, Knoll, and
Asian antiques. The house features a gracious first floor master
suite, sunken family room with fireplace, two bedrooms and a bath
upstairs, a recreation room basement with another bedroom and bath,
loads of storage and more. You'll see vintage photos taken shortly
after the home was completed, a 3D scale model of the home, the
detailed landscape plan by Ron Dirsmith, and original renderings by
Edward Dart. This home is for listed for sale at $975,000.
New to the market, for the first time!
Hosted by Joe Kunkel, Baird & Warner Realtor and CBB President

Ralph Anderson House Tour
Lincolnshire
2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
An original drawing of one of the homes on the tour
Discover
the architecture of Ralph David Anderson during this interior tour of three houses in Lincolnshire. A driving map will be provided of Spring Lake, this mid-century neighborhood that includes 6 other Anderson homes as well as others to drive by.
The architect’s daughter and CBB member Robin Mahaffey of RAM Architecture has planned our visit to these
unique 1960’s-era homes, including refreshments served in the garden at the last house.
Mid-century design details include post and beam
construction, natural common brick and exposed aggregate concrete. Entry to the
homes progress rough landscaped courtyards, providing privacy from the street. Vaulted rooflines punctuate horizontal
elevations with strong geometric forms.
Ralph
David Anderson 1928-1978
From
1953-1957 Ralph Anderson, AIA, worked as a design intern for Perkins and Will
in Chicago, Illinois. In 1957 he established his own architecture practice
under the name of Ralph Anderson Associates. After a brief partnership with
Kenneth Thelin in the early 1960's, he formed Sigfusson Anderson Battles in1967-1968.
In 1968, Ralph and Tom Battles partnered to form Anderson and Battles. Anderson
and Battles went on to receive numerous accolades and “Excellence in Architecture”
awards as with recognition in both local and national publications. A large
number of these projects were built in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago
when it was the center of an urban renewal program set into motion by the
city’s mayor, Richard J. Daley.
A great extent of Ralph’s work extended across municipal, health care, and
residential fields. His projects have won, to date, ten national and local
awards for design excellence from the American Institute of Architects. He was
a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects and served as the
Chairman of the Chicago Chapter’s Public Relations Committee.
